Patchworkers of
Mount Eliza, as we were then known, came together in 1983, mainly due to the
efforts of one woman, the late Joyce Aldridge.
With the support and guidance of Vic Quilters Inc. Joyce organized a
meeting for interested patchworkers at St James The Less Church in Mount
Eliza. The response was very encouraging
and from the initial 18 members, by 1993 when we became incorporated as MPPI.
We are a Not For
Profit organization, and it is in our Charter to help the community. So
volunteering and charitable work are a major part of belonging to MPPI. To this
end we donate our work and conduct fundraising activities such as an annual
Biggest Morning Tea, where we have a ‘mystery shoebox auction’, which is always
a lot of fun so start planning, it’s coming up in May!
Well, we have just
celebrated our 30th birthday and our membership is now 200+,
consisting of different age groups, talents and experiences. All together we share a love for patchwork
and quilting, and we are very proud of a few of our wonderful and dedicated
ladies, who have remained active members since 1983.
Long time member Ruth Chaplin celebrated her 80th birthday on the same day as MPPI's birthday.
Congratulations Ruth!
